Dr Karthik Gopal

Interventional and Structural Cardiologist

Dr.Karthik Gopal is a Interventional and structural cardiologist with special interest in general cardiology, Coronary interventional, Percutaneous valve interventions and other structural interventions.

​

 

Karthik graduated MBBS from Harvard affiliated Sri Ramachandra University (India) with gold medal and worked in JIPMER hospital, Pondicherry, India before migrating to Australia in 2007. Karthik completed Postgraduation degrees in Infection & Immunity (Univ of Sydney) and Public Health (Univ of western Sydney) while getting through the Australian medical council licensing examinations.

Karthik started working as a career medical officer in Coffs harbor hospital, NSW and subsequently moved to QLD to work in The Prince Charles hospital where he completed his basic physician training with secondment in Rockhampton hospital. Further, Karthik did his cardiology advanced training in Townsville hospital and The Prince Charles hospital to become Fellow of Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2018.

Karthik has completed two years of intense coronary interventional fellowship in The Prince Charles Hospital (2019 to 2020) where he got proficient with primary angioplasty, coronary angiogram, intravascular coronary imaging, physiological coronary assessment, right heart catheter assessment and complex coronary interventions.

​

 

Further, Karthik got selected to pursue 1 year of structural fellowship at St Bartholomew (Bart’s) hospital, London, UK which is the highest volume and quaternary referral center for UK where he got proficient with TAVI, other valvular interventions (mitral, tricuspid & pulmonary), and other structural procedures such as ASD/VSD/PDA/PFO closure.

​

 

Karthik has maintained his research interest throughout his career and participated in various trials as sub-investigator. His public health degree compliments his research interests. Karthik believes in teaching on the go and evidence-based practice. He maintains a academic role as associate lecturer at University of Queensland.

​
